We’re all familiar with environmental issues these days: climate change, loss of species, pollution
and so on. The challenge is how to respond and better care for the world of which we are a part.
Here at Ararat we’re working towards an Eco Church award to help us in this. We’re in good
company as over 3000 churches already have an award including 20 in Cardiff.

Eco Church is a scheme for churches across England and Wales providing inspiration and ideas for action across five key areas of church life:

• Worship and teaching
• Buildings
• Land
• Community and global engagement
• Lifestyle

We are already doing many things that will contribute to an award and we have started making changes to take us further on that journey.
These include:
• using worship songs that celebrate creation and prayers that bring environmental concerns to God;
• ensuring roofs are properly insulated and gradually switching to LED lighting;
• installing swift boxes;
• doing a local litter pick;
• switching to Fairtrade tea and coffee after the morning service and collecting paper cups for recycling;
• promoting local events related to creation care.
